The Top 10 Best Songs of 2019

10) "Truth Hurts" by Lizzo

What a helluva year for Lizzo. When you're 100% That Bitch, you can twerk your ass off in a wedding dress while playing the flute and pull it off flawlessly. Not only does every woman love Lizzo and have her as their spirit animal, everyone in America now loves Lizzo.

9) "Blind Leading The Blind" by Mumford and Sons

Gotta love a Mumford and Songs with a driving drum beat. "Blind Leading The Blind" is a classic Mumford and Sons song through the filter of Kings of Leon and I'm all about it.

8) "Woman" by Karen O and Danger Mouse

What does a song sound like when it has the beats of the DJ who made The Grey Album and St. Elsewhere with the lyricist and vocalist of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs? This awesome song is what.

7) "I Really Wish I Hated You" by Blink 182

In 1999, the trio of Blink 182 made an incredible record called Enema of the State. 20 years later, they created a song that both sounds like it could be on that record as well as show their age.

6) "Old Town Road" by Lil' Nas X f/ Billy Ray Cyrus

Do you know why this song is overplayed? Because you couldn't stop listening to it on repeat. It's catchy AF and makes me want to ride down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car.

5) "You Need to Calm Down" by Taylor Swift

Remember when people thought Taylor Swift was a Trump fan because she refused to talk politics or take any sort of political stand? Lol. After supporting vocally supporting Tennessee senatorial candidate Phil Bredesen, thanks in large part to his viewpoints towards the LGBTQ+ community, she comes out with this rocking pro-queer anthem.

4) "Sucker" by The Jonas Brothers

Sometimes you need a catchy pop tune to make you dance and sing in the car. 2019's version of that is this song. It looks like the hiatus was worth the wait if we're going to get great pop hits like "Sucker".

3) "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish

Is this song worthy on being on everyone's Best Of list? Duh.

2) "Social Cues" by Cage The Elephant

Cage The Elephant had two big singles in 2019, and while I am a fan of "Ready To Let Go" - in large part because it sounds like a Fitz and the Tantrums song - the better and more personal song for the band is "Social Cues". I love the hollow repetition of "At least you're on the radio". For a band that should be bigger than they are, but are still pretty successful in their own right, I'm sure whenever they hear this argument hurled at them, it feels just as hollow as well. What good is it being the best rock band of the decade in a decade where hip hop killed rock?

1) "Juice" by Lizzo

Of course Lizzo is going to garner the top spot! After the year she had, she's well-deserved the only artist to earn two spots on my Best Of list.
